Fluconazole is an anti fungal medication prescribed to treat serious fungal infections that affect multiple body systems, including the central nervous system. It is used in the treatment of systemic mycoses or fungal infections affecting internal organs, such as cryptococcal meningitis, blastomycosis and histoplasmosis. It can also treat yeast infections and ringworm. Because of the drug's unique pharmacokinetic qualities, it is probably more useful in treating central nervous system infections or fungal urinary tract infections than other azole derivatives.
